We will be using a website that allows you to discuss topics and themes related to the reading we cover this year. The pads listed below are to be used for educational purposes only. This is how you do it:
When you click on your group's assigned link below, you will be taken to your group site.
Taking turns, each person in your group must claim a color for editing. To do this, type your name first and then click the color block to select a color. Save your choice. Any typing you do connected to the story will appear in your color.
Before beginning, each group member should type their name at the top of the main pad. Please include your period # as well.
When typing on the main pad, please use your initials before typing any comments. You will not receive credit for any work that is not accompanied by your initials.
The main pad is for your finished product. It should contain your most polished thoughts.
Use the chat box in the bottom right corner to discuss and deternine what material will appear in the main pad.
One person at a time will type on the main pad. You can choose a different line to type on if you need to type at the same time that someone else is typing.
All group members should contribute to the pad.
When your assignment is complete on the main pad, one group member should copy the entire main pad document and paste it into a Word document. This Word document can then be saved to a flash drive and a hard copy can be printed for grading. You will also be required to load a copy of your Word document on your group page. There are instructions on each group page.
You should be kind in your comments to each other and treat this site and your group members with respect. Please use this site wisely and appropriately. Any misuse will be cause for removal from the site.
Discuss the following ideas as a group:
Discuss the symbolism of the ring in the selection.
Talk about the ways the ring represents the different facets (personality characteristics) of the father.
How is the giving of a ring to each of the sons a symbolic gesture? What does this gift to them symbolize?
How Your Conversation will be Assessed
Conversation is focused and addresses the various questions.
Group members discuss one question at a time and stay with that idea in a conversational style.
Group members add onto each others responses the way we do in a whole class book club conversation.
Group members move onto a new idea when the previous idea has been exhausted.
